Updated: Feb 14, 2019

(Mt. Masungki Summit & Nagpatong Rock Formation)

Summit of Nagpatong Rock Formation

Tanay, Rizal has a huge range of mountains that you can climbed. Today we picked one of their famous mountain, Mt. Masungki. This mountain is located along the southern end of Sierra Madre Mountain Range. Mt. Masungki features jagged limestone rock formations, cliffs and bluffs just like the other mountains that can be found in Rizal. There are so many rock formation along the mountain range but Nagpatong Rock formation towers them all. This rock is made up of layers of limestone stacked together creating a breath taking scenery. This mountain and rock formation is located in Brgy. Cuyambay, which is where Maysawa Circuit and Mt. Paliparan are also located.

TRAIL

The adventure to the summit reaches for about two to three hours. When you are near to the summit, the trail is consisted of sharp and jagged limestone. Boulders are everywhere be careful because the boulders are quite slippery. There are also sink holes along the way.

one of the sinkhole along the way.

Before reaching the top, there is a "surprise"structure that you will encounter. A "billboard", imagine a billboard out of nowhere. Like why did you build a billboard in that kind of height in the middle of mountain ranges. Even our guide doesn't know the purpose of it. From this point all you can see here is shades of green. It's a panoramic vista mostly composed of ancient canopies, hills, and clusters of limestone. In the other blog you can see that they have pictures on top of the billboard structure. But sadly an accident happen their and hikers are not allowed to climb there anymore.

After you reach the "billboard" structure just a few minutes you will reach the summit of Mt. Masungki.

After spending a few minutes on the summit for resting and snapping photos, we started to descent towards our next destination. The Nagpatong Rock formation, is location somewhere in the same trail that we used to reach the summit of Mt. Masungki. Before reaching Nagpatong Rock Formation, we decided to rest in the base camp near the summit. Their is a store in the base camp, you can buy cup noodles and soft drinks to recharge yourself from descending. After being recharged, we started to hike again to Nagpatong Rock Formation. Upon reaching its base their is a signage telling the MASL of the rock formation. Climbing this rock formation is quite a thriller, there is a makeshift ladder to help you climb the formation. There are also ropes that you can hold onto upon climbing. After a few minutes of scrambling, we regrouped on top of the formation and our photos are taken by our guide in the other rock facing the formation.
